Meg Federico is the author of Welcome to the Departure Lounge: Adventures in Mothering Mother (Random House, 2009). Federico writes humor for The National Post. Her work has appeared in The Globe and Mail, The Shambhala Sun, and Agni Journal (Boston University Press), as well as commentary for CBC Radio (which she also performs). For several years, she wrote a highly successful column, “Transitions: Issues in Caregiving” for The Halifax Daily News. She has taught a range of writing workshops in schools in Canada and the US.

Federico was a consultant to DementiaGuide, Inc., a web-based resource for individuals and families dealing with Alzheimer disease. She has consulted for The Veteran’s Administration of Canada and has worked with the elderly in recreational and in palliative care settings for the past nine years.

She is a certified fitness and lifestyle instructor for adults fifty and up.

Federico holds a BA from Barnard College and an MFA from Bennington College. Though she grew up in New Jersey, she considers herself a New Yorker. She raised a family of three and currently lives in Nova Scotia with her husband and two dogs.
